Une fois son mandat fini, Mystikal démissionna mais à vrai dire l'armée était pas contre son départ... Mystikal cherche ses repères ainsi que sa vocation et choisit la musique comme seule issue de secours. Avec son premier album Mystikal réussit à s'imposé dans l'underground et attire le regard du label Jive. C'est en 1996 que sort son second album " Mind of Mystikal " qui est en fait son premier album mais retravaillé. Le succès underground de Mystikal l'amène à rencontrer le producteur / rappeur Master P. Le Business Man propose à Mystikal de poser quelques featuring sur les albums du label No Limit Records. Mystikal accepte de se servir du Tank (logo du label) pour se faire un nom plus étendu que dans la Nouvelle-Orléans, mais une signature sur le label n'est pas encore d'actualité. Tous commence sur l'album du groupe Steady Mobb'n avec "Premi Drama " et le titre " It's On " qui l'amèneront sur la BO de "Bout It Bout It" qui est une production Master P sur le titre " What 'Cha Think ". Mystikal apprécie le travail du label et sympathise avec le producteur KLC du Beat By The Pound avec qui l'alchimie est parfaite. Master P propose alors avec tous son sens du commerce à Jive de garder Mystikal mais de léguer 45% de son contrat a No Limit Records pour la production d'albums de Mystikal et signe donc un deal de 3 albums. " Unpredictable " sera le premier album à sortir sur le label No Limit avec bien sur le partenariat de Jive. On retrouve sur cet album le titre " Unpredictable " qui lancera son fameux gimmicks " If it ain't life It ain't Me " avec son dernier couplet ou il dédicace un grand nombre de personne. Suivra en 1998, " Ghetto Fabulous " composé de beaucoup de bonnes tracks gardant la même formule que l'album " Unpredictable ". Busta Rhymes, Naughty By Nature, Master P, Silkk The Shocker, Mia X s'ajoutent à la liste de featuring composant l'album. En 2000, après 2 albums sur 3 sur No Limit, le label Jive rompt le contrat avec Master P et permet à Mystikal de sortir l'album " Let's Get Ready " dans lequel le groupe Outkast, Da Brat et Petey Pablo sont invités à rapper et de la participation des Neptunes pour la production de quelques titres. A noter qu'avant la sortie de l'album, le label Jive envoya Mystikal pour un relookage et essaya de changer le nom de Mystikal en Mystik mais bien sûr Mystikal refusa. L'album reçoit un bon accueil du grand public avec des tubes comme " Danger " et " Shake Ya Ass ". Son plus gros succès commercial. Mystikal reçoit les foudres de C-Murder, le frère de Master P avec le titre " Betchya ". C'est en 2002 que Mystikal sort son album " Tarantala ", un album dont certains diront que c'est la confirmation d'un talent et d'autre comme son plus mauvais album mais faut avouer que le niveau est là comparé à certains rappeurs sudistes. Method Man, Redman, Juvenile ou Butch Cassidy participe à l'album ainsi que les producteurs les plus hot du moment The Neptunes. L'album fut un bide commercial mais est tout de même nominé à une cérémonie musicale au USA.
